Goshen County a Leader in Technology

Goshen County Sherirff's Department is actively seeking technological means to which it can empower its officers in the field and make their job safer.  We, in cooperation with the Torrington Police Department, were the first in the state to employ mobile computing technology that allows the officer to know what is happening at the touch of a screen.  Wanted and officer safety information is immediately transmitted to the officer when in a potentially life threatening situation.  The officer's location is transmitted to dispatch as to better monitor the locations of units so others may be able to help in the time of need.  Officers will soon be able to see location history and dangerous chemical information right from the cars.

We have also adopted digital fingerprinting systems.  This has greatly reduced the chance of error helping to better identify possible offenders.  This has also reduced the amount of paperwork for officers to perform.

Every law enforcement agency in Goshen County is connected to a central computer database system that allows information sharing between all 4 agencies.  This empowers the officers to know what someone has done in each community reducing the island effect of rural law enforcement.  The record management system also links our jail with dispatch.  All outstanding warrants or civil process papers are now at the fingertips of any officer.  This system also links with the Criminal Justice Information Network, a system operated by the FBI, so that we can more quickly identify inmates and offenders who are wanted elsewhere in the country.

Digital security systems have greatly reduced the piles of video tapes needed when processing bookings.  Information can be copied to a DVD and played back in court.  Recording quality and ease has never been better.

With the WyoLink communications system just over the horizon Goshen County eagerly awaits testing the network for use in our mobile data systems.  This solution will make travel around the state seamless for our prisoner transfer vehicles.  True county-wide data coverage will soon become a reality, once again increasing the capabilities and safety of our officers.

Finally, going digital in dash camera systems will allow us to better store and archive case history.
